Midscale Experimental Research Infrastructure Forum 2025

Event Details

SPHERE Research Infrastructure will take part in the Midscale Experimental Research Infrastructure Forum (MERIF) in Salt Late City, Utah, on October 14-16, 2025. MERIF brings together NSF-supported infrastructure providers and users to share experiences, reduce barriers to access, and strengthen the broader ecosystem of scientific experimentation.

Principal Investigator Jelena Mirkovic and Community Outreach Director David Balenson will engage with participants to discuss community infrastructure needs and demonstrate how SPHERE can contribute to high-quality, reproducible cybersecurity experimentation. They will participate in a panel to detail SPHERE’s architecture, capabilities, current status, and opportunities for collaboration.

SPHERE is designed to accelerate cybersecurity and privacy research by supporting diverse use cases—including ICS security, IoT behavior and privacy, AI-driven network defense, and multi-fidelity evaluation—while prioritizing reproducibility, scalability, and rapid experimental iteration, in line with MERIF’s goals for impactful, midscale research infrastructure.
